If you grew up on classic crpgs, then you may know the score. You just have to find that perfect afternoon to play it. Preferably one where you are thinking back to the first computer rpg games you fell in love with. It is a tough game, but it is rewarding and fun. You can watch a few "Let's Plays" and get an idea, but until you pick it up you will not understand what makes it great. My simple yes or no scale: Yes, buy it. Many of us pine for those halcyon days of PCRPGS. This is your time machine back.. Just buy it already!!!. good rpg game!!11. There are some upgrades on Book 1 (graphical and some gameplay elements, like item durability and water\/food bar were nice), but overall I can't recommend this one due to the terrible combat at the end of the game and endless walking around. I felt like this game was padded with a ton of walking around, and areas that seemed to have no purpose other than to be large with a few random enemies and long walks. Did I mention the amount of time wasted walking? I've read that mages make the game super easy, and maybe that was my mistake making a melee character. But with 50 strength, 30 endurance, and 25 dexterity and speed, high heavy armor, shield focus and blunt weapons, I'm still needing to rest for 3 days after every fight (even devilmanders, but especially the taurax), there is something wrong. What was especially infuriating was the chance to hit %. ROUTINELY (like every damn fight) I was taking hits non stop from enemies that had a 8-33% chance to hit me, while missing every second swing with my to hit % as 88. Here's an idea, don't put in a to hit % with modifiers (ex: -20 due to distance or darkness) when they don't make a difference for the main character, only seeming to benefit the enemies. Which brings me to the final part of the game. These taurax (which were in part 1), trash mob you and you'll basically have to kite them around at your slow crawl walking pace until you separate one and kill him. Depending on the crap to hit probability, you might lose 3\/4 of your 200 health against one or just half. If you have potions wonderful, if not get ready to rest for 3 days to get your health back and fight one more. If you fight two at a time their to hit seems to be even better so good luck, you're dead. Have fun with the taurax spearmasters (to hit %66 on me, which by default means every time they throw a spear... even in pitch black where it dropped to 33%).Although Eschalon Book 2 is good and HAD promise, the end totally butchered it for me. I'm not even sure if part 3 is worth playing or if I'll invest into the game for more of the end game nonsense.. If you like good old Ultima-style (or a bit more advanced Diablo-looking) RPG's, with a darn good setting, Eschalon Book's your call. It's got a sensible story, loads to explore, blockades to explode and traps to exploit against your many newfound enemies.. Old school dungeon crawling - great fun!. Really good remake of ye olde classic RPG: build your character with traits and stats, kill stuff, gear up. Awesome story, gamewriting, and it's really hard. Buy it dood.. 8-9 \/ 10This is a great rpg and great series, if you enjoy turn based RPG give this a try its alot of funCONS: Game mechanics promote not using your levelup points until after you've bought skills, not a fan of power game favoritism, if you don't mind this aspect its easily a 9 ratingMy reviews are always based on the following-I only play hard or impossible-I don't save\/load scum, live with mistakes -I don't use 3rd party cheat tools-I don't play multiplayer and am reviewing singleplayer aspects unless otherwise noted
